It’s been a month since my last update so I thought it would be useful to pull together the different projects I’m working on. As I think I mentioned in March, lots of ideas all with the usual heat and themes but finding the time to get them all written is the hard part.
First, though, a thank you. I wasn’t sure when I published Her Miss Perfect how it would be received: a novel set in the Coming Into The Light universe but introducing new characters felt risky, but I loved the story once I'd started writing it so much that I did it anyway and it seems to have been well-received… it even had a few days sat in the top 10 of its category on Amazon which, for a self-published author who does all of my own marketing, was deeply satisfying.
Too Sensible To Know Better (6th May - available to pre-order)
This is the prequel novel to the Experimenting series, focused on Harriet and Zach’s early relationship from the age of eighteen through to twenty-six. I’ve absolutely loved writing this novel, which dips into their lives at various key moments. You get to see them grow up, try and get through the joys of learning to adult, all with the same heat you’re used to from the series but with a bit more of an emotional rollercoaster, inevitably since for part of it they live ten thousand miles apart!
As the title hints, they don’t always make the best decisions… but then who in their late teens and early twenties ever does?
It is fully written and simply waiting for the release date, but you can pre-order on Amazon now.
Burning Both Ends (targeting June)
The continuation of Coming Into The Light, the novel I’m asked most about… this goes deeper into the triangle between Amy, Sarah and Luisa.
What will happen to Amy after her crazy Saturday where everything fell apart and yet everything fell into place at the end of the last book? What about Luisa, is she as perfect as she seems? And as for Sarah, will her moral complexities come back to bite her?
Intended to be the second book in a trilogy, Burning Both Ends is written and currently lying dormant, locked away so that I can return to review and edit it afresh in May. As I mentioned in my March update I want to get this one just right, particularly treading the line with Sarah’s character, while giving something that is a fun read.
More updates to come when it is available to pre-order.
Minha Dona (targeting July or August)
The follow up to the Beyond The Game / What Caitlin… series, Minha Dona will be a single, novel length story written from Helena’s perspective.
Set nine months after Beyond The Game, things haven’t quite played out like Helena had thought. Back home in Sao Paolo she’s had near silence from Caitlin, save for the odd professional communication between them, and she’s in limbo… enjoying life still, without a doubt, but she’s realised that Caitlin was special and, uncharacteristically for her, she’s not sure what to do.
Of course that state of affairs doesn’t last for long, but I’m not going to spoil the surprise.
Currently written in outline form, with the draft partially completed, I’m hoping to publish over the summer depending on what else gets in the way. Think of it as What Helena Wants, Needs and Craves all in one very entertaining volume.
Your Place Or Ours? (targeting July or August)
Not an invite, but the title of a book along the lines of Her Miss Perfect: set in the Coming Into The Light world, it follows married couple Ellie and Becca as a chance realisation leads them to push against the boundaries of their marriage.
You could think of it as the love child of Coming Into The Light and Experimenting, though with a new set of characters, some of whom are mentioned in Burning Both Ends and will appear in the third book in the Coming Into The Light main trilogy.
But frankly, like with Her Miss Perfect, the characters are great on their own and I think make for a fun read. The draft is complete, but I want to give myself enough time to edit and to make sure it fits perfectly with the Coming Into The Light narrative before I publish. Watch this space.
